In 2011, designer children's clothing is mimicking what can be seen in the adult lines. However, designers are finding ways to make it appropriate for children. This way, parents who want their kids in the latest styles can do so without worrying that their little girls will be flaunting too much skin. Parents of both boys and girls should know that the clothing is also designed with comfort in mind.
Theme: Eco-Conscious
Environmental trends are big this year. Many designer children's clothing is being cut from sustainable materials, including organic cotton and bamboo. This trend hit the adult racks, the baby clothing, and is now filtering into children's clothing. The clothing is soft and usually wears well, but it's very expensive. Some designers brands using the eco style include Twirls and Twigs, Levi, Nui Organics and Stars at Noon.
Theme: Rock
A rock style is also making an appearance in children's clothing. Though they're not incorporating leather jackets for your kids, they are incorporating the mix-and-match look of the 80's. A surprising twist is that for older girls, some brands are incorporating the skull look seen on punky adult clothing over the last few years.
Theme: The 80s
It should be no surprise that the 80s are making a re-appearance in children's clothing since they've already hit the adult and teen lines. For children, this means an adorable combination of bright-colored clothing. It also incorporates the striped shirts for boys and girls and and the polka dot themes that were popular for girls' clothing. This style isn't seen by any one designer, but is sprinkled throughout the 2011 children's clothing collections.
Theme: Flowy Dresses
If you've always wanted to put your little girl in flowy dresses, 2011 is the year to do it. These styles range from colorful to very plain, but they're all flowy and sweet. The fabric varies but it all goes to make your little girl look like the princess she's always wanted to be. Some designers of this style include Paper Wings and Flowers By Zoe.
Theme: The Minimalist
Possibly the most-popular theme for the winter, which will be continuing into spring and maybe summer is the minimalist look. These styles are simple, with simple cuts and simple patterns. They incorporate muted shades with some brighter colors, like red, purple, yellow, green and blue. The clothes are made from fabrics that include cotton, corduroy, wool and vicose. Though the fabrics are plain and simple, the clothing combines prints and patterns to make the overall look very sweet and very chic. Some designers include Bonton and Miller.
